Over the past 5 years or so "Reality Television" has had a firm grip on the top of the television ratings. "Reality Television" could be defined as unscripted, real life situations filmed and edited for the world to see. In recent years there has been a surge in interest and production of reality based television focusing on the people and culture of the state of New Jersey.
Before we search for an answer to the question of why is there such an interest in the people and culture of New Jersey in reality television let's take a look at some of the shows we're discussing.

Binge drinking, gossipy 20 somethings in Seaside Heights |
Interest in the lives of Jersey residents is nothing new. The first season of MTV's "The Real World" had 2 cast members from New Jersey. Eric was from Ocean Township and Kevin was from Jersey City. It is widely accepted that this series is what changed the face of television and created the entire reality television genre.
There can only be one conclusion as to why shows based on New Jersey are winning the ratings, we are interesting to watch. Some argue that many of these reality shows depict Jersey residents as buffoons. While there is some truth to this argument it is also true that we live exciting lives here in the state of New Jersey.
Here's a scene from the new show "Taking On Tyson" on Animal Planet.
